A Week in the Life of a Full Time Musician

Updated: May 6, 2021

Here is a look into a week in the life of someone like me. During busy seasons, I will compose/record music, practice, teach lessons and play gigs all within the course of a week. Here is a sample layout of what a typical week might look like.

Monday

Morning/early afternoon - Write and record production music, finish up previous week's projects

Afternoon - Teach lessons

Tuesday

Morning/early afternoon - Write and record production music

Afternoon - Teach lessons

Wednesday

Morning/early afternoon - Write and record production music

Afternoon - Teach lessons

Thursday

Morning/early afternoon - Practice for weekend gigs, change strings if needed. If there are no gigs, then continue recording.

Afternoon - Teach lessons

Night - Possibly gig during busy season (summer)

Friday

Morning/afternoon - Practice for weekend gigs, if there are no gigs, then continue recording.

Night - Gig (if applicable)

Saturday

Gig (if applicable)

Sunday

Gig (if applicable)

The busiest time of year for gigging is approximately May through October (wedding season and other outdoor gigs). For lessons, the busiest time is during the school year. Composing and recording production music is a year-round thing, and I will often record "artist" music in the fall.

There you have it! This represents my day to day lifestyle as a full-time musician.
